DocSlice documentation
DocSlice is a REST API that turns documents into data your software can use. You send a file (a PDF, a Word document, a photo of an invoice) and get back clean JSON, Markdown or HTML, or only the fields you asked for, extracted against a JSON Schema that you define.
Start here
- Quickstart: your first conversion in five minutes, with a copy-and-paste example in cURL, Python, JavaScript and PHP.
- What is DocSlice? and Why use it: what the service does and when it is the right tool.
- Formats and limits: what you can send, what you get back, and the limits that apply.
- Authentication and API keys: how to call the API and keep your key safe.
What you can do
- Convert PDF, DOCX, RTF, TXT, CSV and image files to
json, markdownorhtml. - Extract exactly the fields you need (invoice number, total, dates, clauses) by passing a JSON Schema.
- Read scanned documents and photos: OCR is applied automatically when a document has no usable text.
- Send many files, or a ZIP archive, in one request.
- Run long conversions in the background and be notified by webhook when they end.
How the documentation is organised
The menu on the left follows the path most people take: Overview explains the service, Getting started gets you to a first call, Guides cover each feature in depth, API reference describes every endpoint, Integrations shows how to plug DocSlice into your tools, and Reference collects error codes, a glossary and answers to common questions.
